Among the hostages is Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who is still being held captive. Rachel Goldberg, Hersh's mother, has been writing the number of days that have passed since he was taken on a piece of masking tape and placing it on her chest over her heart. She is now asking the public to join her in this unique display of solidarity. The Bring Hersh Home campaign has launched an initiative called "Hostages on the Heart." On January 14, 2023, Goldberg is encouraging people to write the number "100" on a piece of tape and stick it to their shirts near their hearts, just as she has been doing for days on end. In a press release, Rachel Goldberg expressed her sadness at having to repeat this daily ritual and pleaded for her son's safe return. She urged the public to continue raising awareness about the 130 hostages who are still suffering in captivity and must be released immediately. On the designated day, the number displayed on the tape will symbolize the number of days her son and others have been held captive. Those who have been released have shared harrowing accounts of their captivity, shedding light on the horrific conditions they endured. Goldberg's goal is to get one million people to participate in this effort.
