Avast ye scurvy knaves of NBC! The union of NBC Digital swashbucklers be cursing ye management scallywags, claimin' ye be poundin' the chests of union jack-tars and castin' off Guild-protected crew! Aye, 'tis a foul play indeed!

The NBC Digital NewsGuild has accused NBC management of engaging in "an unrelenting pattern of union-busting" and laying off Guild-protected employees. In a scathing letter, the Guild condemned NBC management's announcement of plans to lay off 14 Guild-represented workers. The Guild represents various roles within NBC News Digital and has been negotiating its first contract since union certification in 2019. They argue that any changes to working conditions, including layoffs, must be bargained. The NewsGuild of New York has filed unfair labor practice charges against NBC, which are still pending, and staged a one-day walkout in February. NBC management is now in talks with union reps about severance agreements.

The NBC Guild and The NewsGuild of New York both criticized NBC management for not practicing what they preach and engaging in union-busting activities. They accuse management of threatening and surveilling employees who exercise their right as union members. The Guild demands that NBC agree to a contract that respects industry standards, including just cause, with its workers.

NBC News recently announced layoffs that will affect fewer than 100 employees. Impacted employees will receive severance packages and outplacement assistance. The broader NBCU News Group has over 150 new and open positions available for those affected to apply for. NBC News declined to comment on the matter.

Last year, Fox News Digital covered a one-day walkout by NBC staffers during a labor dispute. The rally saw protesters chanting and marching outside Rockefeller Center, with some calling out MSNBC for mistreating its workers.
