A Maryland man named Richard Bennaugh has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate, Domonique Scott Hayes, during an argument over a remote control. The incident occurred in Springdale, and Bennaugh has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death. According to the Prince George's County Police, officers responded to the scene and found Hayes suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that Bennaugh shot Hayes during the dispute. Bennaugh called the police around six hours after the shooting and claimed that his roommate had attacked him with knives. However, Bennaugh's account to the police differed from the evidence at the scene. He stated that he fell asleep on the sofa and woke up to Hayes making noise in the kitchen. Hayes repeatedly asked Bennaugh about the remote control, but the suspect ignored him. Bennaugh claimed that Hayes was holding two knives, so he grabbed his handgun and started shooting before retreating to his room. He later went back to sleep, assuming none of his shots had hit Hayes. The Prince George's County Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact their homicide unit.
