Arr, ye scurvy dog! The scoundrel what wreaked havoc at an LGBTQ+ tavern in Colorado, claimin' the lives o' five souls, be plannin' to admit his guilt to them newfangled federal charges for hate crimes and wieldin' forbidden firearms, all in a feeble attempt to save his miserable hide from Davy Jones' locker!

The Colorado shooter who killed five people at an LGBTQ+ nightclub plans to plead guilty to new federal charges for hate crimes and firearm violations under an agreement that would allow the defendant to avoid the death penalty. Anderson Aldrich, 23, made a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to 50 hate crime charges and 24 firearm violations. The proposed agreement would result in multiple life sentences on top of a 190-year sentence. Aldrich had previously pleaded not guilty but now plans to plead guilty after the court unsealed the plea agreement. The gun charges can carry a maximum penalty of death. Aldrich was already sentenced to life in prison in June after pleading guilty to state charges of murder and attempted murder. The new charges and planned agreement were made public just days after federal prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty in another hate crime case. Ashtin Gamblin, who survived the attack at Club Q, described the shooting as a hate crime and expressed her support for the death penalty. Aldrich also pleaded no contest to state charges for hate crimes. Family members of the victims expressed their desire for Aldrich to suffer as much as the victims and their families. Despite the pursuit of justice, the shooting cannot undo the harm caused. Aldrich's motivation for the attack remains unknown. Aldrich claimed to be nonbinary following the shooting, but the district attorney dismissed this as an attempt to avoid hate crime charges. The shooting occurred over a year after Aldrich was arrested for making threats and stockpiling weapons.
