A bride, known as Nancy N., was arrested during her wedding in Mexico for allegedly being involved in an extortion scheme with her fiancé and six others. Nancy was detained by police during her nuptials, with pictures showing her handcuffed and surrounded by officers. Her fiancé, Clemente N., also known as "Mouse," managed to escape capture and is currently wanted for murder. The couple was accused of extorting chicken merchants in Toluca, near Mexico City, and participating in the kidnapping of four individuals. They were said to be affiliated with the notorious drug cartel, La Familia Michoacana.According to authorities, the gang members would force wholesalers to pay an illegal quota on the chickens and eggs they sold, with a fee of two pesos per kilo for wholesalers and five pesos for retailers. The Familia Michoacana is also suspected of using drones to carry out an attack in Guerrero, where five people were killed. This attack was attributed to a confrontation between La Familia Michoacana and rival group Los Tlacos, who are vying for control of the area.
In their efforts to crack down on extortion, prosecutors in Mexico stated that 593 people have been detained on extortion charges since the end of 2022, with 274 of them being convicted. Meanwhile, a reward of 300,000 pesos has been offered for information leading to the capture of Mouse.
While this story may seem absurd and unbelievable, it serves as a reminder that crime and criminal organizations exist in various forms and can infiltrate even the most unexpected places, such as a wedding ceremony. It also highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of communities.
