Hark ye mateys! Haley and Phillips be mighty fine, yet 'tis still a Trump vs. Biden sea battle in New Hampshire!

2024-01-23

Arrr, me hearties! Thar be news from yonder sea! The fair lass, Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, did not snatch victory at the New Hampshire primary, but she fought a fierce battle against the mighty former President Trump to keep sailin' the race. Now, what comes next, ye ask?

In the New Hampshire GOP primary, each of the six citizens of Dixville Notch voted for Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor. Although Haley lost the primary, she exceeded expectations and gained momentum for upcoming primaries in Nevada and South Carolina. Haley had joked about "correcting" the outcome in Iowa, where she came in third, and encouraged New Hampshire voters to do the same. However, Trump won both Iowa and New Hampshire with over 50% of the vote, solidifying his position as the frontrunner. Despite Haley's close second-place finish, Trump mocked her in his victory speech. Haley, however, insisted that she has always been underestimated and thanked her supporters, reminding them that "New Hampshire is the first in the nation, but it’s not the last." Haley faced criticisms from Trump supporters who derided her appeal to independents and funding from establishment Republicans. The open primary in New Hampshire allowed Haley to appeal to both independents and moderate Republicans seeking an alternative to Trump. However, the majority of voters in the GOP primary were registered Republicans, disappointing Haley since she needed more independent voters to pose a threat to Trump. The contest in New Hampshire differed from the Iowa caucuses, with fewer evangelicals and self-described "MAGA" supporters. Trump supporters are urging Haley to exit the race, especially if she fails to win her home state of South Carolina. On the Democratic side, Biden faced a write-in campaign by Rep. Dean Phillips, who criticized Biden's age. Phillips, despite being relatively unknown, performed well in the primary and will continue his campaign.
