Avast ye mateys! Texas state Sen. Drew Springer be demandin' that scallywag Attorney General Ken Paxton be facin' impeachment once again! 'Tis all 'cause Paxton dared to file a whistler's lawsuit! Arrr, the seas be rough for ye, Paxton!
A Texas state senator, Drew Springer, is calling for the impeachment case against state Attorney General Ken Paxton to be reopened. Springer, a Republican, is urging his colleagues in the Texas Senate to reconsider the impeachment charges after Paxton stated that he would not contest allegations in a whistleblower lawsuit. Springer argues that Paxton cannot admit guilt while claiming innocence and that his actions are exposing Texas taxpayers to a potential settlement of over $3.3 million. In September, Paxton was acquitted of all impeachment articles filed against him for corruption and unfitness for office. The allegations against Paxton stemmed from a lawsuit filed by four former employees who accused him of misusing his political power to help a real estate developer. The whistleblowers claimed that they were unjustly terminated for reporting Paxton. Despite voting for Paxton's acquittal on 16 impeachment charges earlier, Springer now questions whether Paxton and his legal team misled the Senate. Recent developments, such as the Office of the Attorney General moving to settle the lawsuit instead of obtaining a verdict in its favor, have raised doubts for Springer. Paxton's statement in the court filing that he would not contest any issue of fact in the case is seen by Springer as an admission of guilt that should be reviewed by the legislature. The Office of the Attorney General did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
