Arrr! The election scallywags of Russia be officially labelin' Cap'n Vladimir Putin as a contender fer the grand March presidential battle! Avast, me hearties, 'tis gonna be quite a spectacle!

In a humorous tone reminiscent of a 17th-century pirate, it can be said that President Vladimir Putin of Russia has been officially registered as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election in March. Arrr, mateys! Putin, who be 71 years old, be runnin' as an independent, but he be havin' tight control over Russia's political system after 24 years in power. With all his prominent critics either locked up or livin' abroad, and most independent media bein' banned, it be lookin' like Putin's re-election be all but certain.

Back in 2018, Putin also ran as an independent, snubbin' the United Russia party that nominated him in 2012. His approval ratings be hoverin' around 80 percent, makin' him far more popular than United Russia, which be seen as part of the Kremlin-controlled bureaucracy. The Central Election Commission be givin' Putin the green light for the race after checkin' out the 315,000 signatures collected by his campaign from all 89 regions of Russia. The law requires independent candidates to have at least 300,000 signatures to get on the ballot.

The commission be already approvin' three other candidates who were nominated by parties in parliament and didn't need to gather signatures. These candidates be Nikolai Kharitonov of the Communist Party, Leonid Slutsky of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party, and Vladislav Davankov of the New People Party, all of whom have been supportin' the Kremlin. A 60-year-old politician named Boris Nadezhdin, who be a liberal and calls for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and a dialogue with the West, be also seekin' to run and has gained support from thousands of Russians. The commission be reviewin' his papers later this week to make a decision.

Under a constitutional reform that Putin engineered, he be eligible to seek two more six-year terms, allowin' him to potentially stay in power until 2036. Savvy?
