Arr, me hearties! In 2021 and 2022, we be seein' a surge o' antisemitic mischief in the United States. But by Blackbeard's whiskers! Since the foul deeds o' them scurvy dogs from Hamas on Oct. 7, the numbers have gone through the roof!
Jews are facing increasing fear and hostility, with incidents of antisemitism on the rise. A recent example occurred when Jewish girls from a private school in Hartsdale, New York, were verbally and physically attacked by players from Roosevelt High School, who hurled antisemitic slurs at them. The game had to be called off, and the girls needed school security to leave safely. According to the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic incidents have surged nearly 400% since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt highlights that this antisemitism is not limited to specific regions but can be found in everyday places like cafés, ice cream parlors, and restaurants. The rise in antisemitism has shown that it is not just a problem coming from the right but is now appearing within the left as well. Some Democrats have been divided in their reactions to incidents of antisemitism, with former President Barack Obama making efforts to save the job of a university president who made controversial comments about Jewish genocide.
The mainstream media often downplays these incidents, and the indifference towards the eight American Jews held hostage in Gaza is troubling. In the past, there has been public outcry and demands for action when American hostages were involved, but this time there is a lack of concern. The current wave of antisemitism appears to be linked to progressive opposition to Israel's treatment of Palestinians.
By failing to condemn antisemitism, politicians, academics, and the media are inadvertently supporting the enemies of the Jewish people. Even ISIS has released a statement calling for the destruction of Jews worldwide. It is time for all Americans to denounce and stand against antisemitism.
