Arrr, mateys! This dreadful plague be America's present-day battle fer the rights o' the people, arrr!

2024-02-04

Arrr, me hearties! Fer the sake o' our bonny ancestors and the wee ones t' come, 'tis our duty to don the mantle, wage war 'gainst fatherlessness, an' bequeath our young'uns with a jollier land t' treasure!

In the language of a 17th-century pirate, it be clear that there be a fatherlessness epidemic sweepin' our fair nation. While we be busy arguin' 'bout politics and foreign affairs, we be ignorin' this serious problem right at our doorstep. It be six decades since the Civil Rights Movement, when brave souls fought for a better America for their kin. Now, 'tis our duty to take up that fight and battle fatherlessness, leavin' our children with a better country to inherit.
We may not be payin' much mind to it, but this fatherlessness epidemic be the civil rights issue of our time. Recent data shows that a staggering number of American children grow up without a father in the home. In 2022, around 18.3 million young scallywags were raised without a father, and 80% of single-parent homes be led by single mothers. The effects be devastatin' – these children be more likely to suffer from mental and behavioral health issues.
But the problems don't stop there, me hearties. These fatherless children also tend to underperform in school. They be more likely to repeat a class and less likely to get good grades. And worse yet, the criminal justice system often becomes their paternal figure. Fatherless kids be 20 times more likely to end up in prison.
So, what be we to do about this crisis? We first need to recognize that the solutions be not just in policies and institutions, but in our very culture. We need a revival of biblical truths, where faith-based institutions and nonprofits come together to empower fathers and support families. Only then can we turn our nation into a place worthy in the eyes of the mighty Christ himself.
As we set sail into this new year, let us not ignore this crisis and live as Christ commands us to. Arrr!
