Arrr, me hearties! The scallywag members o' the Democratic Party in Florida be seekin' to sway fair Taylor Swift into spreadin' their message whilst gallivantin' on her tour afore the November elections. Mayhaps this be a chance for the sea shanties of politics to find a new tune!
Florida Democrats are hoping to enlist the help of pop star Taylor Swift in their efforts to encourage state residents to vote against Republicans in the upcoming election. Multiple Democratic lawmakers from the red state are looking to get Swift to speak out against the GOP during her 2024 tour stops in Florida and use her concerts as venues to garner more Democratic voters. Swift, who recently won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, will make three tour stops in Miami prior to the November elections, providing opportunities for Democrats to sell their ideas. Some Democrats even hope that a track titled "Florida!!!" from her upcoming album will have something political to say. Even if Swift doesn't do anything explicitly political, Democratic Party members will be hosting voter registration drives and other events at her performances. The party also plans to reach out directly to Swift to discuss issues affecting young people in Florida. Florida Democratic Party's Youth Council Chair Jayden D'Onofrio stated, "People care about her. People understand the importance of her. She is a youth icon." Democrats are excited about the possibility of loosening the Republican hold on the state with Swift's help. Democratic Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who is running to unseat GOP incumbent Sen. Rick Scott, expressed her enthusiasm for Swift's return to Florida. The state Democrats are also organizing voter events around the upcoming Super Bowl, where Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce's team, the Kansas City Chiefs, will be playing. While Swift has yet to endorse any candidates this year, she previously supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election and opposed the Senate run of Marsha Blackburn.
