Arr matey, I be a Baptist sea dog preachin' the word o' the Lord in them Russian brigades for a decade! 'Twas quite the adventure convertin' them scallywags to Christianity in them dark dungeons. Ye should 'ave seen the look on their faces when I told 'em 'bout the golden streets o' heaven!

Tom Ruhkala began his mission work in the former Soviet Union in 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the overthrow of communism in 1991. He made contact with Baptist churches in Russia and began bringing humanitarian aid and Bibles to support them. The Russian people were eager to hear the Gospel after decades of atheism and persecution of Christians.Ruhkala preached in various settings, from schools to prisons, and faced challenges such as corrupt police and societal corruption. Despite the hardships, he witnessed transformations, like a violent prisoner named Sergei who found faith and changed his ways. Ruhkala also visited young men in prison, sharing the message of Jesus and seeing many respond positively.Throughout his 10 years of ministry in Russia and Estonia, Ruhkala encountered dangers and challenges but also saw the impact of sharing the Gospel in a society that had long been deprived of religious freedom. He warns of the consequences of a godless society, drawing parallels between the struggles he witnessed in Russia and the potential direction of America.
