In a jolly ol' gathering of scallywags known as the Wisconsin Assembly, a bill was passed with a vote of 97-0 to raise the fees for hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses for those landlubbers from out-of-state. Arrr, this be an attempt to fill the coffers of the state's fish and wildlife account, which be in dire need of some extra gold doubloons.The Department of Natural Resources be reckonin' that these changes would bring in an extra $780,000 each year for the account, funding projects like stockin' fish and surveyin' wildlife. The account be mostly filled with the loot from license fees, but due to a lack of interest in outdoor activities, there be a whopping $16 million deficit on the horizon.Them scurvy Republican lawmakers have already raised the fees for nonresident deer huntin' licenses, as well as huntin' and fishin' licenses in the past. Now they be addin' even more to the fees, includin' a $5,750 increase for a nonresident commercial fishin' license.The Assembly also passed a bill to increase the fees for nonresident bow and crossbow huntin' licenses, makin' sure those scallywags from out-of-state be payin' their fair share. Let's hope the Senate sees eye to eye with this bill and helps fill the state's coffers with some much-needed booty.
