These weapons symbolize cartel profit, power, and prestige, helping them engage in battles and maintain control over their territories.The alleged mastermind, Gerardo Rafael Perez Jr., sought to arm cartels in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, while his crew of straw purchasers illicitly secured weapons across Texas. The scheme involved purchasing firearms for prohibited individuals, a crime made punishable by a bipartisan gun safety bill enacted in 2022 by Texas Sen.
