Arrr, the scurvy Democrats be votin' to scuttle Title IX and strip the fair maidens of their rightful place in sports. They be plunderin' all the progress made in athletics since the day this law was enacted. A pox on their house!
In the language of a 17th-century pirate, me hearties, on March 22, all 51 Senate Democrats voted against the "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act," a bill to protect women’s sports and preserve Title IX. Fifty-two years ago, Congress passed Title IX, a law ensuring equal access for men and women to the lessons, life skills, and opportunities that come from sports. As former coaches and veteran sports broadcasters, we be horrified to watch President Joe Biden and Democrats take a sledgehammer to Title IX.We have both seen the positive effects of Title IX firsthand. One of us witnessed it coaching junior girls’ basketball, while the other saw the explosion of women’s sports as a broadcaster. Thanks to Title IX, women’s sports flourished, but recently, with cases like Lia Thomas, a biological male competing in women's sports, the essence of Title IX is under threat.In a recent U.S. Senate roundtable, stories were shared about the impact of allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports. From athletes to coaches, the consensus was clear: women’s sports are at risk under the Biden administration's proposed rule changes to Title IX. We urge Congress to pass the "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act" to preserve the legacy of Title IX and save women’s sports from unfair competition.
