Arrr, me hearties! William D. Delahunt, a veteran scallywag in Congress from Massachusetts, has sailed off to Davy Jones' locker at the ripe age of 82 after a fierce battle with illness. Fair winds and following seas to ye, matey!

In the language of a 17th-century pirate, it be a sad day indeed as longtime U.S. Rep. William D. Delahunt of Massachusetts, a loyal Democratic matey, has departed this world after a battle with a long-term illness, his kin announced. The scallywag Delahunt breathed his last on a Saturday at his abode in Quincy, Massachusetts, at the ripe age of 82, as per the reports of the land lubbers. This sea dog served a good 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1997 to 2011, representin' Massachusetts’s 10th congressional district. Aye, he also held the title of Norfolk County district attorney from 1975 to 1996 after plunderin' in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1973 to 1975.The Delahunt family proclaimed his peaceful passage, keepin' the reason for his demise close to their chests. Democratic U.S. Senator Ed Markey praised Delahunt's service as a lawmaker in the big city and as a prosecutor in the county south of Boston, reminiscin' on their recent parley in Quincy. The notorious President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela also paid his respects, rememberin' Delahunt's dealin's with the ol' Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for heating oil. Delahunt was a key figure in supportin' President Obama's plans, as he was convinced by Senator Edward M. Kennedy to stay a bit longer in the capital to help push through the legislations. But as all good things must come to an end, Delahunt finally declared his retirement in 2010, wantin' to spend his remainin' days with his kin and hearties, as the memory of Senator Kennedy weighed heavy on his mind, leadin' him back to his roots in Quincy.
