Avast ye mateys! 'Tis rumored that a grand tavern and inn worth $16.1 million, belonging to the famous chef Gordon Ramsay, 'tis now under siege by scallywags who be squatting within its walls. They be defyin' eviction orders and be brandishing legal threats. Shiver me timbers!
In the language of a 17th-century pirate, a group of "professional squatters" has taken over a London pub owned by celebrity chef Gordan Ramsay, threatening legal action against anyone who tries to kick them out. At least six freeloaders broke into Ramsay’s York and Albany hotel and gastropub, boarding up windows, locking doors with kitchen utensils, and gluing locks. Shocking photographs show squatters holed up in the trendy pub, some barefoot and sprawled on black leather sofas. While police can take action if crimes are committed, such as damaging property or stealing, the occupation itself is not a crime in the U.K. The squatters posted a "legal warning" sign on the door, claiming their right to be there in a non-residential building. Ramsay, known for his fiery temper, called the police and is trying to secure an eviction notice, facing a nightmare scenario as the squatters take over the place, leaving their mess everywhere and boldly telling locals it's now their home. The building was purchased by film director Gary Love in 2017, who then leased it to Ramsay on a 25-year term with an annual rent of $330,000. The squatters, including one with black eyes and a knee compression bandage, are defiant and refuse to leave, warning of legal consequences for any attempt to evict them. Ramsay, a star on reality shows like "Hell's Kitchen" and "Next Level Chef," is in a battle to regain control of his property from these unwelcome invaders, as the squabble continues in true pirate fashion.
