Avast ye scallywags! NPR's own Uri Berliner hath penned a scandalous yarn 'bout liberal leanings in the news. The cap'n be none too pleased, scoldin' poor Uri without changin' course. Methinks there be stormy seas ahead for this lot! Arrr!

In a recent column, I discussed the ongoing controversy at NPR and the bias revealed by editor Uri Berliner in a recent essay. Berliner highlighted the lack of Republican editors in NPR's Washington office and numerous instances of bias in favor of Democratic narratives. NPR CEO Katherine Maher responded by attacking Berliner, accusing him of being "profoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and demeaning" to his colleagues for pointing out the company's political bias. Maher dismissed the criticism of bias, claiming that diversity of thought goes beyond political perspectives.Maher's response was not surprising given her past social media posts, including calling Donald Trump a racist and excusing looting. Despite falling audience numbers and a lack of ideological diversity, Maher made it clear that NPR will not change its course. Taxpayer-funded media outlets like NPR raise the question of why we should be subsidizing any media outlet at all. The recent controversy at NPR should prompt a meaningful debate on the necessity and risks of state-funded media.
