Arrr, me hearties be worryin' that they may scallywag their own young'uns like they've been scallywagged. They fret about showin' enough love to their wee bairns when they've never tasted love themselves. Aye, 'tis a conundrum as vexing as findin' buried treasure without a map!

In this week of celebrating mothers and motherhood, be prepared for the discussions and explanations from those who have chosen to be "child-free by choice." The declining birth rate has led to more people opting not to have kids, sometimes because they believe life is easier or more fun without children (which, as a mother of six, I can say is not true). As someone who did not have a perfect childhood, I have found parenting to be profoundly therapeutic. Looking at my children, I reflect on my own upbringing and see the healing impact of being a good parent. Some women have put off motherhood out of fear, only to realize later that they waited too long. Parenting after childhood trauma can be challenging but also incredibly healing, allowing us to provide our children with the love and stability we may have missed out on.Overall, parenting can be a transformative experience for those who have faced adversity, allowing them to create a better family environment than the one they grew up in.
