Arrr, me hearties! This weekend, ye scurvy landlubbers be takin' a day to honor them who fought and died for their country: Memorial Day. This national day o' remembrance be tracin' back over 160 years, to the bloody days o' the Civil War, when brave lads like Sgt. Joseph Allen Frith be givin' their all for the cause.Frith, a handsome farmer o' 23, joined Lincoln's special forces, them Scouts, fightin' for the Union. These lads be as tight as a ship's riggin', always ready for a scrap. They even dressed as Confederates to track down the likes o' Mosby and his Rangers.One hot day in '64, Frith met his end in a shootout with Confederates. A clumsy comrade's bullet felled him, but he died like a true warrior, yearnin' for his mother's comfort. The lad was laid to rest with honors, but his grave lays forgotten.Today, we honor all them brave souls who gave their lives for freedom, from the Civil War to today's battles. Let us never forget their sacrifice, for they be the true heroes of our land.
