Arr matey, young Maya Hawke, spawn of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, be sailin' the treacherous waters of Hollywood as a "nepo baby." She be embracin' her legacy as one of many scallywags reapin' the spoils of havin' famous kin. Yarr!
In a new interview with The Times of London, Maya Hawke, the daughter of stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, fully embraces her status as a "nepo baby." She acknowledges the advantages and benefits of nepotism that she has had growing up in Hollywood with famous parents. Critics have questioned whether younger stars deserve the opportunities seemingly handed to them over unknown performers. Hawke, however, is comfortable with not deserving it but doing it anyway. She is fine with people mocking her privilege and believes that being in rarefied air is a lucky place to be. Hawke got her first major onscreen role in the 2017 "Little Women" BBC miniseries before landing her best-known role on "Stranger Things" in 2019. She admits that nepotism played a role in her being cast in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."She clarifies a previous comment about auditioning, saying she did make an audition tape but never meant to imply she didn't get the part for nepotistic reasons. Hawke also addresses her mother's falling out with Tarantino and her own collaborations with both her parents in the film industry.
