2023-07-06

Arr, me hearties! The scallywags of Wisconsin be losin' their trust in the ol' Cap'n Trump! Aye, a jolly new poll be showin' that the Governor o' Florida, Ron DeSantis, be thrashin' him by a mighty 16 points! Shiver me timbers!

Some Wisconsin Republican voters are starting to doubt former President Trump's electability, according to a new statewide poll. The poll showed that in a head-to-head primary matchup, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would beat Trump by 16 points. Wisconsin state Senator Duey Stroebel, a Republican, expressed his belief that more and more people are questioning Trump's ability to win a general election, while praising DeSantis for his common sense approach on the campaign trail.

The Marquette University Law School Poll, released recently, initially showed Trump leading DeSantis by just one percentage point in the crowded GOP primary field. However, when respondents were asked to choose between DeSantis and Trump in a head-to-head matchup, DeSantis received 57% of the vote, compared to Trump's 41%.

Chairman of the Republican Party of Sawyer County, John Righeimer, also noted a growing enthusiasm for DeSantis over Trump. He expressed concerns about Trump's electability in a general election, stating that the Democrats know they can beat Trump and that DeSantis would force them to defend their positions.

Stroebel argued that DeSantis has been more consistently conservative on issues like abortion compared to Trump, who has taken more liberal positions. He emphasized the importance of picking a candidate who can win and suggested that there is a segment of the population that would never vote for Trump.

Wisconsin is considered a crucial swing state in the 2024 presidential election, and the accuracy of the Marquette poll makes these results significant. In terms of favorability, Trump received 68% among Republicans and independents who lean Republican, followed closely by DeSantis at 67%.

The poll also indicated a close race between DeSantis and President Biden if the election were held today. However, in a rematch between Trump and Biden, the poll suggests a victory for Biden.
