Avast ye scurvy scallywags! Cap'n Chris Wray o' the FBI be shoutin' from the crow's nest, claimin' 'tis a jest to reckon they be settin' their sights on conservatives. Aye, he be facin' a storm o' questions 'bout their misdeeds, but denyin' 'tis his game, says he, arr!

During a House committee hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray addressed accusations that the FBI is biased against conservatives. In response to questions from Wyoming Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman, Wray stated that he disagreed with the characterization of the FBI and his own approach as biased. He emphasized that his personal background as a registered Republican contradicted these claims. Hageman referenced various incidents, such as the Twitter files, the Durham investigation, and the "Russian collusion hoax," as examples of why the American people distrust the FBI.

Hageman accused Wray of weaponizing the FBI against conservatives and using surrogates to circumvent the First Amendment. She also questioned whether the FBI planned to police election-related speech leading up to the 2024 election. Wray denied these allegations and stated that he does not believe the Biden administration violated First Amendment rights by working with social media companies.

Hageman further pressed Wray on disciplinary actions against FBI employees and criticized him for ignoring bias within the FBI. She accused Wray of suppressing the rights of American citizens and called for him to follow the Constitution. Hageman claimed that the Foreign Influence Task Force, established under Wray's watch, is responsible for the censorship and suppression of conservative voices.

In response to the exchange, Wray stated that he is committed to implementing procedures and safeguards to ensure the FBI acts in the right way. Hageman criticized Wray's response, stating that he should stop suppressing the rights of American citizens. The FBI issued a press release during the hearing, clarifying that they are not in the business of censoring accounts or moderating content but rather work with companies to combat crimes and protect national security.
