In the language of a 17th century pirate, it be reported that Asa Ellerup, the wife of the suspected scallywag Rex Heuermann, was spied for the first time on the same day she filed for divorce from the bilge rat. This be happenin' less than a week after the New York police arrested her husband on charges of cold case murders. The lass be lookin' rather distraught in the picture, with her lawyer, Bob Macedonio, claimin' that her life and the lives of her children be turned upside-down by this whole affair. After Heuermann be arrested near his office in Manhattan, the authorities be makin' their way to the Ellerup home in Massapequa Park to inform the lass and her adult spawn of the accusations. They be seizin' their passports, computers, phones, and iPads, leavin' the family in a state of bewilderment. The police be in possession of the house for almost a week, investigatin' the scene where they found evidence such as guns and a portrait of a battered woman. They also searched Heuermann's property in South Carolina and took away two Chevrolet Avalanche pickup trucks, the same kind that be linked to the disappearance of one of the victims at Gilgo Beach.
Heuermann be pleadin' not guilty to the charges of murder in the deaths of three victims, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. The bodies be found wrapped in burlap off Ocean Parkway in 2010. He be suspect in the death of a fourth victim as well. Police be connectin' him to the crimes through witness statements, phone records, and a DNA sample collected from a pizza box he tossed. The district attorney be sayin' that Heuermann's wife's DNA be found on some of the victims, but she be out of town durin' the murders and has not been named a suspect. Heuermann be due back in court on August 1st and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
