Arrr, me hearties! Tainted cough syrup be claimin' the lives of six wee ones in Cameroon. The World Health Organization be beggin' the Indian authorities for aid in trackin' down the source of this foul brew. Avast, let's hoist the anchor and put an end to this scurvy business!

The World Health Organization (WHO) has sought assistance from Indian authorities to determine the source of a contaminated cough syrup that has caused the deaths of several children in Cameroon. In a comical and entertaining 17th-century pirate language, the WHO issued a warning about Naturcold, a syrup sold in Cameroon that was found to contain high levels of the toxic substance diethylene glycol. The manufacturer listed on the packaging, Fraken International (England), was revealed to be nonexistent according to the UK regulator.

The WHO reached out to India's regulatory body and other countries for help in identifying companies that may be involved in the production of Naturcold. This incident is just one of many similar warnings issued recently regarding contaminated cough syrups sold worldwide. In previous years, such medicines were linked to the deaths of over 300 children in countries like Gambia, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia. The WHO has emphasized that the threat remains ongoing.

While the syrups involved in these incidents have been produced by different manufacturers, three out of four cases have implicated Indian-made products. The WHO believes that collaborating with India is crucial in understanding the situation in Cameroon. However, efforts to investigate these incidents and the associated supply chains have been hindered by a lack of information from Indian authorities and drugmakers.

At present, there has been no response from Indian or Cameroonian officials regarding the matter. The WHO's request for assistance from India reflects the urgency in addressing this issue and preventing further harm caused by contaminated cough syrups.
