Arr, those Hindu landlubbers be claimin' that the "Oppenheimer" booty romp, wi' their precious scripture, be a scurvy blow to Indian society! Har, methinks they need to lighten up and take a swig o' rum!

Acclaimed Director Christopher Nolan's new summer blockbuster "Oppenheimer" has caused controversy in India due to a sex scene that includes a reading from one of Hinduism's sacred texts. The movie tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist responsible for creating the atomic bomb. In the scene, Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, engages in a sexual encounter with his lover, Jean Tatlock, portrayed by Florence Pugh. Afterward, Pugh's character grabs a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture, and hands it to Oppenheimer, who recites a famous line from it. India's Information Commissioner, Uday Mahurkar, criticized the scene as an attack on Hinduism and called for its removal. The "Save Culture Save India Foundation," founded by Mahurkar, also demanded an investigation and punishment for those involved. The Foundation expressed dissatisfaction with the content being produced, claiming it goes against foundational values. They were also surprised that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approved the scene. The CBFC gave the film a U/A rating, meaning it is suitable for audiences 12 years and older. Warner Bros Discovery reported that "Oppenheimer" grossed $7.33 million in India over the weekend. In an interview, Murphy defended the inclusion of the sexual scenes, stating that Nolan included them intentionally for their power and not for gratuitous reasons.
