Arrr! Me hearties in the coastal lands of China and Taiwan be on guard, for Typhoon Doksuri be comin'! With its fierce winds and rain, it poses a threat to the region. Though it be weakened a wee bit, ye still best be takin' precautions, lest ye be caught unawares!

The coastal Chinese city of Shantou and parts of Taiwan have shut down schools and offices due to Typhoon Doksuri, which is bringing heavy wind and rain to the region. The typhoon has weakened, but its outlying bands will still bring strong winds and rains. Shantou will remain largely shut through the end of Friday. The Taiwan Strait, a major trade route, has experienced disruptions to shipping and flights due to the typhoon. Southern Taiwan, including the cities of Kaohsiung and Tainan, have also closed offices and schools. Hualien and Taitung counties on the island's east coast have also shut down. Kaohsiung has evacuated approximately 300 residents from a mountainous area. The storm left tens of thousands of households without power in Kaohsiung and Tainan, though most have had their electricity restored. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in China's Fujian province on Friday. Prior to reaching Taiwan, the typhoon caused havoc in the northern provinces of the Philippines, resulting in at least nine deaths and displacing thousands of villagers. The storm caused power outages, agricultural damage, and the suspension of work, classes, and sea travel. The death toll is expected to rise as more reports come in.
