Avast ye scurvy scallywags! On Friday, a landlubber judge from Wisconsin hath commanded the elections commission to hand over all its documents about a scurrilous Republican matey who dared to impersonate a false Trump elector in the year 2020. Methinks a storm be brewin'!
A Wisconsin judge has ordered the state elections commission to release all records related to one of its Republican members, Robert Spindell, and his role as one of the fake electors for former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election. The lawsuit, filed by a union leader represented by the liberal firm Law Forward, sought commission records related to Spindell and his comments about being a fake elector. Fake electors in Wisconsin and other battleground states attempted to cast ballots for Trump, even though he lost the election. The role of these fake electors was central to the federal indictment against Trump, who pleaded not guilty to trying to overturn the election results. Law Forward filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, but it was unanimously rejected. Another state judge ordered the commission to reconsider its vote. Law Forward alleged that the commission failed to turn over records requested under Wisconsin's open records law. The commission argued that the records were in Spindell's possession, not theirs. The judge ruled that the records held by commissioners are in the custody of the commission and must be provided. The commission has until September 8 to produce all non-exempt records. Law Forward praised the ruling and has also filed another lawsuit seeking damages from the fake electors and Trump attorneys, alleging a conspiracy to overturn the election in Wisconsin.
