Jaime Lozano, who led Mexico to the Gold Cup title last month, will continue as the team's coach. He had been serving as interim coach, but the Mexican Federation decided to drop the interim tag. Lozano, who also coached Mexico to a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, had his contract expire after the Games. The Mexican Federation expressed their desire to trust a Mexican coach and acknowledge the presence of great coaches in Mexico who deserve the opportunity to lead the national team. They believe that a Mexican coach who understands the country's football deeply and can connect with the players is the best option for now. Diego Cocca replaced "Tata" Martino as coach after Mexico's disappointing performance in the World Cup in Qatar. However, Cocca was fired shortly after losing to the U.S. in the National League semifinals.
