Arrr, ye scurvy dogs! The U.S. Geological Survey be tellin' us there be a mighty earthquake o' magnitude 5.1 near Ojai, California! And by Blackbeard's beard, as Tropical Storm Hilary draws nigh, calamity be awaitin' the landlubbers!

In a twist of events, Southern California experienced a magnitude 5.1 earthquake while dealing with the effects of Tropical Storm Hilary. The earthquake's epicenter was located about 4 miles southeast of Ojai, California, and occurred at 2:41 p.m. PT.
Although there were no reports of damage, the City of Calabasas upgraded the earthquake to a 5.1. Several smaller aftershocks followed, ranging from magnitude 2.6 to 4.0.
Interestingly, just before the earthquake, residents received an alert on their phones from the USGS Shake Alert system, instructing them to "drop, cover, hold on" to protect themselves. This happened as Tropical Storm Hilary was approaching San Diego, less than 100 miles away.
Tropical Storm Hilary is expected to bring torrential rains and potentially life-threatening flooding to the region until Monday. The storm has already made landfall in Mexico and poses a significant threat to California.
This rare combination of a storm and an earthquake has caused quite a stir in Southern California. While residents deal with the possibility of flooding, they also have to be prepared for seismic activity. It seems like nature has a sense of humor, giving them a double dose of excitement.
Fortunately, no damage was reported from the earthquake, but the situation remains unpredictable as the storm continues to develop. It's a strange and challenging time for the residents, but they will surely weather the storm, quite literally!
