In a daring rescue operation, six Pakistani boys and two adults were saved after their gondola got stuck almost 1,000 feet in the air. The incident occurred in Battagram, north of Islamabad, when one of the cables connected to the gondola snapped, leaving them hanging over a ravine. Osama Sharif, one of the boys, shared that they believed they were going to die and tears filled their eyes as they feared the cable car would plummet. Osama, who was on his way to receive the result of a final exam, marveled at the miraculous rescue that unfolded before their eyes.
The rescue attempts involved pulling the passengers from the cable car in different tries, with one of the youngest children being lifted by a commando attached to a helicopter. Since helicopters couldn't fly after sunset, rescuers constructed a makeshift chairlift from a wooden bed frame and ropes to approach the cable car using the one intact cable. In the final stage of the risky operation, the chairlift was lowered to the ground, bringing two boys in traditional white robes to safety.
Following the rescue, the owner of the gondola, Gul Zarin, was arrested for disregarding safety measures. Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, described the situation as alarming but expressed relief that all the children had been successfully rescued. He commended the military, rescue departments, district administration, and local people for their teamwork.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by individuals when safety measures are not followed. It also showcases the bravery and skill of the rescue teams who risked their lives to save others. Despite the initial fear and uncertainty, the successful rescue operation brought a sense of joy and gratitude to all involved.
