Avast ye mateys! Behold, a clip from yonder past be sailin' the internet waves! 'Tis a jolly sight to see young Vivek Ramaswamy, a landlubber from Harvard, boldly questionin' the reverend, Al Sharpton. He be wonderin' why a scallywag without "political experience" deserves his vote. Arrr, quite a conundrum, indeed!
Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is receiving praise for a 20-year-old clip in which he questioned then-Democratic candidate Rev. Al Sharpton on his lack of political experience. In the clip from a 2003 MSNBC town hall, Ramaswamy, who was just 18 years old at the time, asked why he should vote for someone with the least political experience. Sharpton responded by claiming that he had the most political experience and dismissed the idea that holding a job equates to political experience. Ramaswamy recently referred to this exchange in an interview, and the clip went viral after being shared online. Ramaswamy took the opportunity to pat his younger self on the back for eliciting sensible words from Sharpton, whom he criticized as being nonsensical. He also noted how the tables have turned since then. Ramaswamy, who previously claimed to have not voted until 2020, when he supported former President Trump, revealed that he actually voted for a libertarian candidate in the 2004 election. During the first Republican presidential debate, Ramaswamy faced criticism over his youth and non-political background, with former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie calling him a rookie and amateur, respectively. Despite this, he is currently placing third in national polls, behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Trump.
