Yarr, the scurvy dogs from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office be chargin' six brazen scallywags! These rapscallions be accused o' kidnappin' a guard at a city jail on Aug. 22 and keepin' him captive for a dreadfully long two hours!

Six inmates at a jail in St. Louis are facing charges after they allegedly held a 73-year-old guard hostage and took his cell keys to free other prisoners before he was rescued by a SWAT team. It all started when two inmates, Eric Williams and Anthony Newberry, were helping the guard deliver breakfast trays to other inmates. Williams suddenly punched the guard, knocking him to the ground, and Newberry joined in the attack. They then pulled the guard to a shower area. Newberry took the guard's keys and started unlocking all the cells, releasing dozens of inmates. Paul Mondaine and Earnest Lyons moved the guard to a table where he was handcuffed and had his legs shackled. Meanwhile, Newberry and Richard Bolden III smashed televisions and the inmates used pieces from them, along with broom and mop handles, to make weapons. They threatened the guard with these homemade weapons. Eventually, a SWAT team freed the guard and used "less-than-lethal ammunition" on the unruly prisoners. The inmates suffered minor injuries inflicted by their fellow inmates during the hostage situation. The six inmates, Williams, Newberry, Mondaine, Lyons, Washington Jr., and Bolden, are facing charges including first-degree kidnapping, damaging the jail, assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. The motive for the incident remains under investigation, but one of the inmates allegedly demanded pizza. The guard was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
