Arr, ye scurvy dogs of the Texas Supreme Court be rejectin' the pleas of transgender youth and their scurvy doctors to block a law that be banishin' puberty blockers and hormone therapies for the wee ones. Walk the plank, says the court!

The Texas Supreme Court has allowed the state's ban on transgender medical procedures for minors to go into effect. This decision comes after a judge issued an injunction against the law in response to a lawsuit brought by families of transgender youths and doctors. The law is set to take effect on Friday.

Lawyers for the families expressed their disappointment, stating that the ruling puts transgender youth and their families and medical professionals at risk. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton did not release a statement on the court's decision, but his office had appealed the injunction to the state Supreme Court.

The plaintiffs requested an emergency order from the Supreme Court to block the law while their appeal is heard, but the court denied the request without giving a reason. The lawsuit argues that the law violates parental rights and discriminates against transgender teenagers.

Senate Bill 14, which was signed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott in June, prohibits transgender minors from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers, and transition surgeries. It also requires children who have already received these treatments to be weaned off.

The lawsuit claims that the law will have damaging consequences for transgender teenagers who are unable to receive the recommended gender transition treatment. Many of them will face unwanted and unbearable changes to their bodies.

District Judge Maria Cantu Hexsel of Travis County in Austin, who is an elected Democrat, ruled last Friday that the families were likely to succeed in challenging the law. She stated that the law goes against parents' fundamental rights to make decisions concerning the care of their children and discriminates against transgender youth.

Similar bans in other states have faced lawsuits, with judges blocking those laws from taking effect.
