Arr, I've been a thespian fer four decades now, but me next venture be holdin' great weight. Methinks I've witnessed the dastardly Marxism sneak into our very existence. Me part in 'Reagan' be a stern cautionary tale, ye scallywags!
I have been an actor in Hollywood for over 40 years, and as an actor, I love applause. It usually comes at the end of a performance, but one time I received a standing ovation when I least expected it. It happened during a meeting with fellow filmmakers, where I introduced myself and shared my journey from the Soviet Union to Hollywood. I talked about the surprising fact that in both countries, expressing love for America could get you in trouble. This unexpected applause was a memorable moment.I recently had the opportunity to play a role in a film called "Reagan," where I portrayed a Soviet defector. The film explores the experiences of American and Western European writers who were deceived by Stalin's carefully staged displays during their visits to the USSR. They praised the Soviet system, unaware of the harsh realities faced by ordinary citizens.
Fear was a powerful tool used by the Soviet government to control its population. Even after Stalin's rule ended, this fear remained. However, by the time I was a teenager, people had started to see through the lies and propaganda.
When I came to America, I thought I had landed in paradise. The friendliness of people and the abundance of goods were remarkable compared to the Soviet Union. However, I have noticed changes in America that remind me of the Marxist ideology I experienced in the Soviet Union. Traditional values are being overturned, and free expression is becoming restricted.
My late friend, Yuri Bezmenov, a former KGB officer, also warned about the dangers of communism infiltrating Western society. His lectures, like my character Kertchman's speeches, were met with skepticism by many. Today, their warnings are more relevant than ever as young Americans show an interest in Marxist ideas.
Reagan's words, "freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction," resonate deeply with me. We must learn from the mistakes of others and protect our freedom, as it is fragile.
