Arrr! Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas be well aware that the Rio Grande Valley Sector be a prime target fer scurvy dogs seekin' illegal entry. But alas! Team Biden be naught but a bunch o' landlubbers fiddlin' with mere appearances!

The Biden administration has faced a significant influx of illegal border crossers since President Biden took office. In response, they have implemented a strategy that combines expanded legal pathways with consequences for those who choose to enter illegally. Migrants who enter illegally may face expedited removal proceedings and may be barred from reentry for five years. They are also presumed ineligible for asylum, unless there is an applicable exception.
The administration has established a legal pathways program that allows migrants to be admitted without a visa or valid entry document at a port of entry. While this may seem contradictory, it is done to provide a legal alternative to making illegal crossings between ports of entry.
Initially, the strategy seemed to work, as illegal crossings decreased from April to June. However, they have since increased again, reaching record numbers in September. The situation has become so dire in Texas that the DHS Secretary, Mayorkas, has resorted to building additional barriers using the same authority that Trump's DHS Secretary used in 2018.
Despite these measures, the administration's focus seems to be on admitting as many migrants as possible through legal pathways. They have expanded their parole program for Venezuelans, Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans, allowing up to 30,000 parole grants per month. They have also increased the number of appointments available for migrants to initiate asylum applications at designated ports of entry.
Overall, the administration's approach appears to be a combination of deterrence and providing legal alternatives. However, critics argue that the focus on legal pathways may still result in a high number of undocumented migrants being admitted into the United States.
