2023-10-15

Arrr, ye scurvy Republican scallywags be raisin' anchor to thwart the passage o' Palestinian refugees and be takin' back the parchments of any foreign landlubber who be spoutin' terroristic notions. Avast ye, 'tis a mighty quest they be embarkin' on!

Two Republican lawmakers, Reps. Tom Tiffany and Andy Ogles, are planning to introduce a legislation called the Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission Act (GAZA Act), which aims to prevent the Biden administration from accepting Palestinian refugees displaced by the conflict in Israel. The bill would prohibit the granting of visas to holders of Palestinian passports and would also prevent the Department of Homeland Security from allowing Palestinians into the country through its parole program. Tiffany states that the legislation is necessary to protect America's national security and prevent unvetted Palestinians from entering American communities. Experts estimate that there could be more than a million Palestinian refugees from Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

The GOP moves come in response to some Democrats, like Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who have called for the U.S. to accept refugees from Gaza. However, Bowman emphasizes that members of Hamas should not be allowed to enter the country. In contrast, Sen. Marco Rubio announced his intention to introduce legislation that would cancel visas for foreign nationals who endorse or espouse terrorist activity. Rubio argues that the Biden administration has the authority and obligation under existing law to remove foreign nationals who support terrorist groups and celebrate violence against Israelis.

In response to these developments, a White House National Security Council spokesperson stated that all refugees undergo rigorous screening and vetting before being admitted to the United States, and there are currently no plans for new visa programs. The issue of accepting Palestinian refugees has become a contentious topic, with Republicans concerned about potential national security risks and Democrats advocating for compassion towards those fleeing conflict while ensuring proper vetting procedures are in place.
